*PLEASE READ IN FULL, THERE ARE SOME GENRE-SPECIFIC STIPULATIONS*

EXTREME MUSIC NEED NOT BE EXTREMELY STUPID.

Thank you for your interest in Inner Demons Records (IDR). Some rules must be followed in order to participate in any IDR projects, releases, or activities. Most of these are common sense, but the world is a steaming pile of poo right now and it has become necessary to make certain we are all on the same page. There is also some general information here that is good for everyone to know. This info changes frequently as new label opportunities develop, and new problems need to be cleared up.

IDR has quickly become a great little label, putting out great material by great people, and it will remain that way. IDR will not associate with any material or artist that is fascist, homophobic, transphobic, racist, xenophobic, nationalistic, sexist, or any other such nonsense. If you have any such material in your past catalog or have collaborated with dodgy artists or labels, you're not a good fit for this label. You're also a dick. If you are a tRUMP sympathizer or a Qanonsense moron, you are not a good fit for IDR. Also, you’re definitely an ass. This label doesn’t do cults. If you’re into any of the conservative extremist bullshit or moronic conspiracy theories, this is no place for you. IDR is a progressive label and will not support conservative ideals. I WON’T SPREAD YOUR HATE. General misanthropy and anger is perfectly acceptable (and probably the norm as of late).

As you most likely know, IDR is a d.i.y. label concentrating on experimental and left-field music such as noise, drone, ambient, experimental, death industrial, dark ambient, rhythmic noise, power electronics, HNW, and industrial. Wall artists, be sure to read down a little lower where there are now stipulations specific to those releases. We’re very rarely into grindcore or its offshoots unless it’s something highly unique and interesting. All art, duplication, assembly, and most of the sausageification (our version of mastering) happens in-house. Examples can be seen at IDR Bandcamp. If you’re pretty good at it, then please feel free to do it yourself if you’d like. We really don’t care who does it, but we can’t afford to pay someone to do it. Due to dying format we’ll be going digital-only after this current batch. All releases will be black and white. Earlier releases had color covers and band logos, but we no longer do that. We also no longer do box sets, even though we loved making them. Shipping charges have made that impossible. Maybe we’ll do something like that in the future if things change for the better. The covers are printed at home in a fairly lo-fi manner, hand numbered, and cut out with scissors. All art will be created in-house, with a very particular process, but we take suggestions and will keep arting until we get something we both like. You’ll also need to approve the sausageification. Basically, every step of the process has to be something we both like. It’s less difficult than it sounds.

All releases will also have a digital download. We’re OK with attaching additional tracks or art as a bonus as long as it isn’t something stupid. You should know what we mean. No imagery of any type of abuse, excessive violence, war, death, or porn will be used. If you have a lot of generic gore, death, crass nudity, violence and whatnot as the art for your previous releases this isn’t the right label for you. That activity doesn’t necessarily make you a bad person in our eyes, we just don’t want to go that way with IDR. Some exceptional submissions have been shot down for this reason. We don’t just want a label free of that art, we want a collective of artists that don’t want to be part of that. IDR does both single 3” and double-3” releases, each disc having a 22-minute max and 15-minute minimum. We now also do full-length releases on 5” CD-rs, with an 80 minute maximum and a 45 minute minimum.

You may request to do a digital-only release, where the lengths of the tracks and the release are less important. Also, those submissions will be released quite quickly, usually within a week. This time may vary due to unforeseen circumstances and how long it takes to communicate with the artist. Turnaround for physical releases will be quite long, with release around the end of 2024.

Each release is limited to 42 hand-numbered copies, of which each artist gets 10. Each disc will have a sticker and download code in it, and you’ll also get a bunch of extra codes - at least a printed page. You will also get download codes for the rest of the releases in the batch you are part of. If you are a touring or gigging noisician/musician/producer/whatever, we’ve seen some acts make simple one-off art cards with download codes on the back. They can be sold for a dollar or two to people that don’t collect physical media. If you’d like extra discs beyond the 10 we’ll give you for artist copies, we will sell them to you at a significant discount (about 40%). For splits and collaborations, we may change the number of copies you’ll get. At this point we are not parting out digital sales, because the sales volume is so low. If you don’t believe this we will share sales data with you. We pride ourselves on transparency.

Once your album is in prerelease and we can print the download codes, we’ll send you your artist copies and codes. The package will be tracked, and sent at our expense. It isn’t unusual for us to spend $300+ just to send out artist copies for a large batch. If a package comes back to us because IDR screwed something up, we will rectify the problem as soon as possible and get it back out to you. If a package comes back to us because of your error or lack of picking up the package, you will have to pay for the postage for us to send it to you again. We shouldn’t have to say that, but it has now happened several times.

We follow a ton of artists and labels on Bandcamp, including the pages of all artists that we work with, and we will periodically promote your other releases in a list with others that have worked with us. Your release on IDR may, depending on content, be available for streaming on Grey Clay Radio. The station does not have advertisements, the tracks cannot be downloaded, and there is no money to be made by IDR, you, or the station. It is purely a labor of love by its creator. We also send out discs and download codes to multiple review sites.

We have some randomly debilitating mental health and memory problems. If we don’t get back to you or say we’re going to do something and then we don’t, we forgot and would appreciate a friendly reminder. This won’t be seen as rude or out of line, we sincerely appreciate these reminders.

WALL ARTISTS:

If you are an HNW/ANW artist, the label is no longer accepting single walls that fill a 3” disc. We’ll be looking for 2 different walls, neither being longer than 10 minutes. Make them different, and show your versatility and creativity. This is for walls that have some sort of modulation or movement. If you do ”standard” (non-changing, static) walls, each 3” needs 3 different walls, each roughly 7 minutes long or shorter (disc tracks must be at least 17 minutes total). At this time, We’re not currently interested in releasing full length 5” discs of walls. We are okay with a larger number of shorter walls.

Make something amazing that we can be proud of together and contact us via the form below. Remain benevolent and have a noisy day!
